58 test positive for Covid-19 in Penan village, sparks Kevok Cluster in Telang Usan

KUCHING, June 21: Kampung Long Kevok, a Penan settlement in Telang Usan, is at the centre of a new community cluster after 58 of its villagers tested positive for Covid-19.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the Kevok Cluster reported 52 new cases today.


“A total of 280 individuals have been screened whereby 58 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, 14 tested negative and 208 are still awaiting test results.

“All positive cases were referred to Miri Hospital and admitted to the Miri Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment,” the committee said in a statement.

Prior to the Kevok Cluster being declared, Minister-in-charge of Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC) Datuk Lee Kim Shin announced that the village has been put under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for two weeks beginning today.

For the record, the cluster is the only active cluster in Telang Usan so far.

There are 68 positive cases in Telang Usan at present where 52 of them are linked to the Kevok Cluster, nine were close contacts to positive cases and seven detected from other screenings at health facilities. — DayakDaily
