57 people from Tatau longhouse test positive for Covid-19, sparking new Ng Tekalit Cluster

KUCHING, Aug 30: Fifty-seven residents from a longhouse in Nanga Tekalit, Tatau have tested positive for Covid-19, forming a new cluster known as the Nanga Tekalit Cluster.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) giving updates on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, a total of 64 people linked to the Nanga Tekalit Cluster have been swabbed, with seven testing negative.


Meanwhile, SDMC said there were three new clusters identified in Sarawak, all of them community clusters.

Aside from the Nanga Tekalit Cluster, the other two new clusters are the Belinggai Ulu Niah Cluster in Subis and Sungai Ringin Cluster in Meradong.

For the Belinggai Ulu Niah Cluster, 33 people from two longhouses tested positive for Covid-19 out of 119 people swabbed.

As of today, a total of 72 individuals are awaiting Covid-19 swab test results while 14 individuals have tested negative for the coronavirus.

As for the Sungai Ringin Cluster, 29 longhouse residents have tested positive for Covid-19 out of 92 people swabbed.

Thirteen other people have tested negative while 50 individuals are awaiting Covid-19 swab test results.

SDMC said the longhouses linked to the three new clusters have been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) while the Covid-19 patients have been admitted to health facilities in Sarikei, Miri and Bintulu for treatment.

Meanwhile, the Simpang Koko Cluster in Sarikei and Jalan Pesisir Bintulu-Miri 2 Cluster in Bintulu were declared ended.

With this, there are 131 active clusters throughout the State out of which 26 registered 285 new cases today. — DayakDaily
