BELAGA, April 29: A 56-year-old man was reported missing after not returning home from a fishing trip at Batang Rajang here on Saturday night (April 27).

The missing man who has been identified as Awi Lahang was last seen wearing a red long-sleeved shirt and black shorts.

According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the man went out to fish around 10pm on Saturday night and failed to return home as of the next afternoon.

His family then initiated a search at the location but only found his belongings in his boat.

This prompted the family to file a missing person report around 7.55pm last night (April 28).

“Bomba has activated a search and rescue (SAR) operation at 8.30am today. To date, the operation commander Belaga Fire Station (BBP) chief Herman Main will join the police at the location later,” the report said.

The travel time by boats to reach the location is about an hour. — DayakDaily
