559 new cases, 2 fatalities due to Covid-19 in Sarawak today

KUCHING, June 17: Sarawak has recorded a total of 559 new Covid-19 cases and two fatalities today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Sibu recorded 85 cases, whereas Bintulu saw 79, Kuching with 61, Miri with 51 and Tatau with 48, registered 324 or 57.98 per cent of the total number of cases.


Other districts with new infections on this day also included Subis (43), Kapit (29), Matu (27), Sebauh (21), Sarikei (19), Sri Aman (14), Serian (13), Lundu (12), Samarahan (8), Simunjan (8), Selangau (8), Betong (6), Mukah (4), Kanowit (3), Bau (3), Saratok (2), Kabong (2), Telang Usan (2), Lawas (2), Meradong (2), Belaga (1), Dalat (1), Pusa (1), Julau (1), Song (1), Asajaya (1) and Pakan (1).

With that, the committee said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the whole of Sarawak since the outbreak began in March, 2020 now stands at 58,034.

“Out of the 559 patients today, 353 of them were detected following close contact screenings where none of them were symptomatic.

“Another 96 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where two showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Additionally, there were 59 cases that were of other screenings from health facilities and 51 cases were from symptomatic tests in health facilities,” it said in the statement on the Covid-19 update in Sarawak today.

Meanwhile, SDMC also reported two new deaths from Covid-19 today, increasing the death toll to 366.

Fatality case number 365 involved a 56-year-old female from Sibu while number 366 was a 73-year-old male from Kuching. Both of them had medical histories of comorbidities.

With 373 new recoveries throughout Sarawak today, there are still 9,958 active cases who are receiving treatment in the hospitals across Sarawak.

On the latest update of Covid-19 zones, Sarawak now has 30 red, three orange, seven yellow zones and zero green zones. — DayakDaily
