KUCHING, Jan 10: A 54-year-old man has lost a staggering RM728,800 after being lured into a fake online stock investment that promised huge returns.
Kuching District Chief Police ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said police received a report on the case after the victim was lured by a stock investment advertisement on Facebook on Dec 28, 2025.
“The victim then clicked on a WhatsApp application link and was connected to the number 018-4699075.
“The individual introduced herself as Vivian Chow, a trade assistant for Accumulation & Growth Investment Alliance. At the same time, the victim was added into the investment WhatsApp group,” he said in a statement yesterday (Jan 9).
He said the victim was later directed to download the “Bospro” application through a link provided, which was used to deposit funds or investment capital and promised lucrative returns.
Then, the victim made payments in stages into six different bank accounts involving a total of ten online transfer transactions.
He became suspicious after failing to withdraw the investment profits shown in the application and later realised, he had been scammed, resulting in losses amounting to RM728,800.
Naga said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property, which carries a punishment of imprisonment from one to ten years, whipping, and may also include a fine if found guilty.
He warned the public to verify licensed entities at www.sc.com.my and not to be easily fooled by social media investment offers.
Naga advised that victims of scams should call the National Scam Response Centre in Malaysia (NSRC) hotline at 997 within 24 hours.
He also urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department (JSJK) via hotline, message, or WhatsApp at 011-62890089, or by email at kjsjkswk@rmp.gov.my. — DayakDaily
