53 former close contacts of Long Jegan Cluster sent home by bus, express boat after quarantine

KUCHING, May 23: A total of 53 former Covid-19 close contacts who had completed their quarantine period at the Miri Low-Risk Quarantne and Treatment Centre (PKRC) were sent back to their original longhouses in Tinjar yesterday.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications (Ukas), they are former close contacts to the Long Jegan Cluster in Beluru as declared by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on May 1.

They were sent back by bus from Miri PKRC to Lapok, Tinjar then by express boat from Lapok, Tinjar to settlements in Long Jegan and Long Tisam.


The Long Jegan Cluster was first detected on a 25-year-old teacher of a primary school in Long Jegan who later infected 56 others.

A total of 162 individuals linked to the school were swabbed for Covid-19 following this outbreak while the school was also placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from April 23 to May 6.

As of yesterday (May 22), 194 individuals have been screened where 94 were positive and 18 of them remained as active cases. — DayakDaily
