KUCHING, Aug 8: A total of 529 swimmers of 20 teams from Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand will participate in the 2nd Sarawak Short Course Sprint 2022 on Aug 13 and 14.
According to Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) in a statement today, organising chairman Voon Yong Hui said he was overwhelmed with the number of participants because the previous one in 2019 only saw the participation of 376 swimmers from Indonesia and Malaysia.
“This time, we have more foreign teams coming, which is a good opportunity to show them that we have world-class facilities. In addition, we hope to popularise swimming in Sarawak.
“Besides, we hope to show them what Sarawak has to offer in terms of tourism. It is clear that sports have a way of bringing people together to celebrate their shared interests in different games, and as such, the connection between sports and tourism is formed,” he said.
The two-day event, organised by PASC in collaboration with Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and supported by the Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Ministry will be held at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre.
Time finals sessions are set to begin at 7.30am each day, followed by the closing ceremony at 4.30pm on Aug 14.
Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah will close the competition.
There will be a welcoming dinner for officials on August 13. — DayakDaily
