SIBU, Dec 31: A man in his 50s, working as a plantation manager in Sibu, has lost about RM240,000 after falling victim to a non-existent investment scam.
Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mancha Ata revealed that in November this year, the victim reported becoming acquainted with an unknown individual (the suspect) through social media.
After establishing contact, the suspect introduced an investment scheme promising lucrative and immediate returns through the CW(M)-LNC application.
“Enticed by the offer, the victim communicated further with the suspect through WhatsApp.
“The victim, deceived by the suspect, proceeded to make multiple transactions totalling approximately RM240,000 into the bank account provided by the suspect,” he said in a statement today.
The scam came to light when the victim realised he had been duped, as the suspect became unreachable after the transactions were completed.
Police are investigating the matter, and the public is urged to remain vigilant against similar scams. — DayakDaily
