KUCHING, Oct 12: The 50 per cent rental discount on stalls and business premises under local councils and statutory bodies for hawkers and small entrepreneurs, which was announced in April this year, will be extended into 2027, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

During the tabling of the Supply Bill (2027), 2026, or Sarawak Budget 2027, at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today, he said that the total discounts are expected to amount to RM10.8 million.

“This measure has already helped thousands of petty traders and market stallholders reduce costs and sustain their livelihoods amidst rising expenses.

“With these numerous efforts, the government is laying a strong foundation for SMEs (small and medium enterprises), MSMEs (micro SMEs), and startups to grow, innovate, and compete in higher-value sectors,” he said.

He added that the measures will ensure Sarawak’s entrepreneurs, from rural youth to emerging enterprises, have the capital, skills, and institutional support to drive Sarawak’s economic transformation. — DayakDaily
