KUCHING, March 31: People are encouraged to settle their summonses as the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is offering discounts of up to 50 per cent between April 5 to 9.

The incentive is offered for selected summonses in conjunction with the 214th anniversary of the PDRM.

Sarawak Commissioner of Police Datuk Aidi Ismail explained that the payment can be made at all traffic police offices throughout Sarawak from 9am to 4pm.

All summonses are eligible for the 50 per cent discount except for year 2020 and 2021 accident summons, no compound status summons, arrest warrant status summons, court trial status summons, M/Lorry-related offences summons, dangerous overtaking summons, using emergency lane summons, running a red light summons, overtaking on double lines summons and exhaust modification-related summons (issued starting March 1, 2021).

Meanwhile, PDRM has also recently launched the online summons payment system, MyBayar Saman, to make it easier for people to settle their traffic summonses.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador had during the launch at Bukit Aman in Kuala Lumpur on March 25 said that the payment method was available at no extra charge on iOS and Android operating systems, as well as via the official website http://mybayar.rmp.gov.my.

“Previously, we can see people lining up under the hot weather to enjoy the special discount rates. Now that we have made it easier for them to settle their summonses, we hope to collect RM500 million in a year,” he said.

The payment system is an initiative by the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) with Bank Islam Malaysia as the payment gateway provider.

The website and application were launched at midnight last Wednesday (March 24) by offering a 50 per cent discount for selected offences until April 11. — DayakDaily
