KUCHING, Jan 21: Domestic, commercial and industrial consumers will continue to enjoy electric and water bill discounts between five to 25 per cent on their monthly bills for January until June, 2021.
This is one of the 11 initiatives under  Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang 5.0 (BKSS 5.0) announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in a press conference  today.
“This discount (for electric bills) will benefit 642,000 households in the entire Sarawak.
“The total cost of discount amounts to RM166.2 million will be born by the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government,” said Abang Johari.
For assistances on water bills, he added it would benefit more than 568,000 households in the state while the total cost involved is RM31.5 milion.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, the state government had rolled out four packages of BKSS with total expenditure of RM2.55 billion to benefit all strata of the society.
Today with the worsening situation of the pandemic, Sarawak government released the fifth financial assistance package amounting to RM405 million.
“The state government hopes that this BKSS 5.0 which worths RM405 million will help to reduce the burden of all Sarawakians until June.
“We also hope and pray that with the availability of Covid-19 vaccine, the threat of Covid-19 can be over after June, 2021,” said Abang Johari.— DayakDaily
