BINTULU, Sept 16: A collision between a motorcycle and a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle on Wednesday night at a nearby fuel station adjacent to Kampung Pisang along the Samalaju Coastal Road resulted in the death of a seven-year-old Indonesian boy and his mother.

In the 9.50pm incident, three others survived the crash, including the boy’s father and two motorists in the 4WD.

According to Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the three survivors have been taken to Bintulu Hospital for medical treatment.

According to initial investigations, the boy and his mother were riding pillion on a motorcycle with their father, heading towards Bintulu town from Samalaju when suddenly the 4WD vehicle suddenly rammed into the rear of the motorcycle.

“The boy and his mother was confirmed dead at the scene by staff from the Health Ministry,” said Alexson.

Following the collision, the motorcycle was flung to the left side of the road, while the 4WD landed on its back in a ditch, pinning its driver and a passenger inside.

“They were rescued by a team of firemen from Samalaju and rushed to Bintulu Hospital,” said Alexson.
