SERIAN, Jan 15: The four-metre tall durian sculpture at Serian Durian Piazza here that ‘ripened’ recently has broken the internet among local Sarawakians.

Initially painted silver to emulate aluminium, the durian sculpture is today coloured gold, as if the fruit had just ripened.

A Facebook page known as ‘Serian Edition’ posted on Friday (Jan 13) informing that the silver durian was undergoing a paint job.

The post has since gathered a lot of feedback, with most of the netizens relating the new colour to a ripe durian with comments like: “The durian is now ripe” (‘Masak sudah tu buah durian’, ‘Dah masak durian‘).

Some, however, preferred it green. “Gold is not the right colour too. It should be green,” one of the commentators opined.

Meanwhile, others loved the gold symbolising wealth and riches, especially in the Chinese community. One of them said the new paint colour could bring a good durian harvest to the Serian Division this year.

Earlier today, DayakDaily drove to Serian Durian Piazza to check out the sculpture. As expected, the golden durian was very popular. People were lining up to take photographs with it.
