KUCHING, 21 July: A total of 48 people received compounds for not following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) at a bistro located at Jalan Song Thian Cheok last night.

According to Kuching District Police Chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani, a team led by ASP Wan Mohamad Ali Wan Malek had checked the outlet at 10pm. The team discovered that its workers and customers failed to follow the social distancing SOP set by the government. A foreign bistro patron was among those inspected at the premises.

A total of 48 individuals, including the owner and four workers, were compounded and ordered to proceed to Padungan Police Station for the issuance of the compounds.

They were issued the compounds under Rule 3, Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act No. 7 2020, and must provide a valid explanation to the Ministry of Health Kuching Office in 14 days.

Awang Din pointed out that the police will not give notices before issuing the compounds to premises which failed to follow the SOP, especially social distancing, and monitoring of premises will continue to be held from time to time.

He also urged premises operators and owners to follow the SOP set by the government to prevent the spread of Covid-19. — DayakDaily
