SIBU, Feb 9: A total of 47 projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) will be implemented in Bukit Assek this year.
These projects, according to Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, mostly involve upgrading schools and longhouses.
However, 30 per cent of RTP projects from last year which could not be implemented then would also be carried out this year.
chieng hoped the projects could be completed according to the schedule.
The RTP projects in Bukit Assek are mostly requested by the people, he disclosed.
“It is always good that they (project requests) come from the rakyat. I write to them first so that they can hold meetings in the schools or churches, even in the longhouses. After their discussion (among themselves) then they submit their need for RTP projects,” he said in an interview.
Last year, the main focus was on upgrading private roads which the local authority could not do it due to their status.
One such road is Jalan Kiong Tung which is widely used by the public. The 672-metre road had been tar-sealed at a cost of RM500,000.
“We upgraded the road as Sibu Municipal Council is unable to do it since it sits on private land,” Chieng added. — DayakDaily
