KUCHING, Feb 9: A total of RM40 million has been allocated to build a retention wall to prevent beach erosion at the Tanjung Riong beach in Maludam, Pusa.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report yesterday, Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli said the allocation was channeled through Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor, under Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA).

He added that he has also applied for an allocation of RM18 million under the 12th Malaysia Plan for the same project.

“With the allocation of RM40 million under the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), it is hoped that this project can be carried out well, even though it is still at the planning stage and waiting for the design by the relevant agency,” he said.

Mohamad Shafizan revealed this at a press conference after visiting the proposed project site at the Tanjung Riong beach, Maludam, Pusa

“The beach needs to be protected because there are several houses in the area which are located close to Tanjung Riong beach and could threaten the safety of the residents,” he said.

Also present was the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak director, Ahmad Deny Fauzi. — DayakDaily
