The operation commander Kilok Lampas reported that the victim was identified as Raya Adam.

“According to the information obtained from the complainant, the victim and his family members from the same longhouse went to the paddy field to pray.

“Around 8am, the victim then went to the nearby river to bathe.

“After an hour, the victim’s wife went to the river to look for the victim but failed to locate him and she feared that he might have drowned,” he said.

An initial search for the victim was carried out by the villagers but he was nowhere to be found.

Kilok also mentioned that following a discussion with the police, it was decided that a search and rescue (SAR) operation will only be carried out the next day.

Among the reasons taken into account was because the boat will take about two hours to reach the location of the incident by the river, apart from cloudy weather and strong currents endangering the safety of the SAR members. —  DayakDaily
