45 workers, residents of Serian palm oil company test positive for Covid-19, sparks Sepom Cluster

KUCHING, Sept 2: Forty-five workers and residents at Serian Palm Oil Mill Sdn Bhd (Sepom) located at Jalan Mongkos in Serian have tested positive for Covid-19, triggering a new cluster dubbed the Sepom Cluster.

According to a daily update of the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), a total of 52 people have been swabbed and seven individuals have tested negative.

Meanwhile, 93 residents of a longhouse located at Sungai Libai, Batu Niah in Subis also tested positive for Covid-19.

Consequently, a new cluster dubbed the Maxbi Libai Cluster was declared and the longhouse has been placed under an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

As of today, there were 168 people who tested negative for Covid-19 and five individuals awaiting swab test results out of a total of 266 people swabbed in relation to the cluster.

Meanwhile, SDMC revealed 55 residents in four longhouses in Kampung Panggil and Kampung Nyelam in Sri Aman have tested positive for Covid-19, triggering a new cluster known as the Kampung Panggil Cluster.

A total of 222 people have been swabbed with 39 individuals testing negative and 128 individuals awaiting swab test results.

SDMC said the Covid-19 patients from the Sepom Cluster, Maxbi Libai Cluster and Kampung Panggil Cluster have been admitted to various health facilities and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC) in Serian, Miri and Sri Aman respectively. — DayakDaily
