SELANGAU, Oct 11: A delegation of 45 priests, including representatives from Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia, visited Rumah Panjang Simond Boom in Ulu Dijih to gain insight into the lives of the longhouse community, which embraces diverse cultures and religions, particularly in the Tamin constituency.
According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the longhouse is also the residence of Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang.
For the local residents, the presence of this group of priests, led by Father Micheal, brings hope for a deeper understanding and appreciation of Christian teachings and overall religious harmony.
Expessing his heartfelt gratitude for their visit, Gira hopes this engagement will encourage more priest delegations to come to the area.
“My wife and I cancelled our flight and were delighted to welcome this group,” he said.
As part of his commitment to support religious development in the region, he pledged to construct a church in Selangau.
“I promise to build a church in Selangau that can accommodate 500 people, facilitating religious activities and gatherings in the future,” he added.
Gira emphasised that this initiative highlights the importance of nurturing relationships among diverse groups, illustrating how religion and culture can serve as a solid foundation for fostering a united and harmonious community. — DayakDaily
