KUCHING, Nov 15: The 45-metre-long sinking road pavement along the Batang Sadong-Simunjan Road (KM1.535 to KM1.580) will be repaired by the contractor starting next week.

Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development I (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) has instructed the contractor to reinstate the road pavement within the defect liability period (DLP) that will end on January 18, 2025.

“The contractor has given their response that the repair works are scheduled to begin from November 20 until the end of December this year.

“The contractor has also installed warning signs to ensure the safety of road users travelling along the road,” he said in response to Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris during the question-and-answer session in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today.

On the Batang Sadong-Simunjan road project, he said the work scope includes the upgrading of the existing road with a length of 6.2km to JKR R3 standard, rehabilitation of 1km-long existing road using the cold in-situ pavement recycling (CIPR) method, and the installation of road furniture at Tidal Gate @CH10+00.

At the moment, Aidel said the Sarawak government has no plans to modify the surface structure of the road.

“However, once the construction project or contract period ends, any necessary road maintenance or repairs to damaged surfaces will be carried out using asphalt concrete or premix,” he added. — DayakDaily
