KUCHING, Aug 11: A 41-year-old man from Sibu without comorbidities was one of the two Covid-19 deaths reported in Sarawak today, according to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
SDMC said there were two Covid-19 patients in Sibu who passed away, one aged 41 and another aged 65 who had hypertension, chronic lung and liver diseases.
With the two deaths today, the death toll in Sarawak has increased to 475.
On the other hand, the State recorded 634 new cases of Covid-19.
SDMC revealed 73.34 per cent or 465 cases were asymptomatic, 26.34 per cent or 167 cases had mild symptoms and 0.32 per cent or two cases had lung infections.
The committee disclosed that there were no cases in category four and five, which would require oxygen support and intubation.
From the new cases reported, there was also one Import B case from an individual returning from Johor and an Import A case from an individual returning from Saudi Arabia.
Based on the distribution of cases in districts across Sarawak, Kuching reported 319 new cases, which represented half of the new cases throughout the State.
This was followed by other southern zones which include Samarahan with 64 cases, Bau (42) and Lundu (41).
Sibu reported 40 new cases while Bintulu, Serian, Simunjan and Mukah registered 34, 31, 14 and 13 cases respectively.
Miri and Sri Aman witnessed six new cases while Selangau reported five new cases, Tebedu (4), Pusa (3), Kabong (3), Tatau (2), Betong (2) and Beluru (2).
Meradong, Belaga and Subis each recorded one new case.
With 634 new cases reported today, the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has jumped to 83,387.
SDMC said there were 437 Covid-19 patients who have recovered and were discharged from hospitals throughout the State, bringing total number of recoveries to 75,063 patients or 90.02 per cent of the total cases in Sarawak.
Nonetheless, there are 7,669 Covid-19 patients being treated in health facilities throughout the State out of which 27 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 11 patients on respiratory support. — DayakDaily
