BINTULU, Aug 26: All 40 trainees who have completed the PETRONAS Re-skilling Scaffolding Level 1 programme from the August intake will be placed with companies within the oil and gas sector, thanks to the strong support from industry partners.
PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Norazibah Md Rabu emphasised that the initiative underlines PETRONAS’ commitment to empowering socio-economic development of local communities in its areas of operation.
The month-long programme, held from Aug 1 to 25 in collaboration with IKM Bintulu and TMR Technologies Sdn Bhd, brought together 40 youths from diverse backgrounds across Lawas, Ulu Limbang, Tinjar, Niah, Sebauh and Bintulu.
“May the knowledge learned serve as a provision to further develop technical skills and step into the working world with greater confidence.
“It is our hope that all participants will be able to use the skills they have acquired to enhance their employability, thereby benefiting their families, communities, and Sarawak as a whole,” she said in her speech text when addressing the programme’s graduation ceremony at IKM Bintulu today, which was graced by Telang Usan assemblyman Dato Dennis Ngau.
Norazibah highlighted that their successful placement was made possible through the support of industry partners including Preveld Oil & Gas, Rahabco Engineering & Construction Bhd, Bintulu Scaffolding Sdn Bhd, and JL Expert Scaffolding via TMR Technologies Sdn Bhd.
Graduates will also receive recognised certifications such as Basic Scaffolding, Mechanical Fitter, Working at Height, Confined Space, OGSP, and CIDB, depending on requirements and qualifications.
“The involvement and strong support of industry partners are very meaningful in ensuring the success of this programme. At the same time, we welcome continuous support from various industry players to continue opening opportunities for the trainees,” she said.
Looking ahead, Norazibah announced that PETRONAS will broaden its re-skilling efforts with new initiatives within this year.
In collaboration with Digital Dagang, a Digital Marketing Course for 30 participants from Lawas and Limbang will be held from Sept 17 to 19, 2025 in Lawas.
Meanwhile, for Niah, Sebauh, and Bintulu, PETRONAS will partner with the Department of Agriculture to organise a Hydroponics & Freshwater Fish Farming Course for 60 participants from Oct 16 to 18, 2025 in Bintulu.
“In 2025, PETRONAS aims to provide exposure to re-skilling programmes for a total of 130 participants, comprising 40 for the Scaffolding Level 1 programme, 30 for the Digital Marketing Course, and 60 for the Hydroponics & Freshwater Fish Farming Course,” she said.
She expressed hope that such initiatives will not only boost the employability of youths but also uplift the socio-economic wellbeing of families and communities, contributing to Sarawak’s overall development. — DayakDaily
