4 suspects with 17 criminal records including drug offenses detained to assist in Eric Chang’s investigation

KUCHING, March 11: Four suspects with an accumulative 17 criminal records have been arrested for investigation into the disappearance of four-year-old Eric Chang from Bintawa since March 7.

Kuching District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the four suspects, aged between 24 and 49, were two women and two men.

The two women, including the victim’s mother and caretaker, were detained on March 9 while the two men were arrested recently.


Eric Chang is still missing, as the police investigation into his disappearance continues.

Among the 17 criminal records, there were 14 drug offenses, two property crimes, and one commercial crime.

In relation to this case, the police have opened two investigation papers, namely a missing person case and another case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which is on aspects of negligence and neglect of child care.

The police have also set up a special team to expand the search effort, said ACP Ahsmon, urging the public to come forward if they have information about the child.
