4 Covid-19 related deaths in Sarawak today with 324 positive cases


KUCHING, May 15: Sarawak recorded four Covid-19 fatalities today, as new positive cases receded to a total of 324 cases, compared to yesterday.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a press statement today said 73.15 per cent (237) of the cases were derived from Miri (146), Bintulu (36), Sibu (33) and Kapit (22).

“Other districts that reported for new cases are namely Selangau (16), Pusa (13), Kuching (13), Saratok (10),Mukah (10), Beluru (5), Belaga (3), Subis (3), Sri Aman (2), Matu (2), Pakan (2), Sebauh (2), Sarikei (2), Bukit Mabong (1), Betong (1), Meradong (1) and Song (1).

“This brings the total number of positive cases recorded to 37,978 cases,” it said.

According to SDMC, 241 of the cases involved individuals who have a close contact to positive Covid-19 cases, while 31 cases are reported from symptomatic individuals in health care facilities.

“Another 28 cases involved individuals screening from the current existing active cluster, followed by 21 cases are from other types of screening test conducted in health care facility, two cases involving individuals returning from other states (Import B), and one cases involving an individual returning from Papua New Guinea (Import A),” the statement added.

Meanwhile, SDMC noted the four fatalities due to Covid-19 today were recorded in Bintulu (1), Sarikei (2), and Kanowit (1).

“This brings the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 recorded in the state to 219 cases,” it said. — DayakDaily
