MARUDI, Jan 22: A 39-year-old man, David Asang Salo, who was reported missing in the jungle near Long Tungan here, has been found safe by local villagers today.
According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the man was found near Long Pejau and Long Selungo.
“Police and Bomba personnel proceeded to verify the information and confirmed that David was safe, uninjured, and back with his family across the river,” it said.
After collecting details from the family, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was officially concluded at 4.58pm.
The team returned to their temporary accommodations in the village, with plans to journey back to their base the following day due to the extensive travel distance.
Earlier, Bomba reported that a SAR operation is underway for the timber worker who has ventured into the wilderness on January 17 and has not been heard from since.
David’s last known activity was cutting timber in a forested area between Selugo Bridge and Long Tungan around 11pm.
His disappearance was initially noticed by a colleague, who reported that David failed to return after his trip into the woods.
The case was officially reported to the Bomba on January 21, at 1.50pm, prompting the activation of the SAR operation. – DayakDaily
