38th Premier Sarawak Cup tennis tournament set to take place from March 14 to 19

KUCHING, March 3: The Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association’s (SLTA) continuous organisation of the 38th Premier Sarawak Cup ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors J300 (J1) is an endorsement and recognition by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Asean Tennis Federation (ATF).

Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah commended SLTA president Dato Patrick Liew and his team for their efforts and commitment in promoting tennis in Sarawak.


“We are very proud of this, because of the recognition given. I have to give credit to Dato Patrick Liew and the team, they have been very passionate about this tournament by organising it year in and year out,” he told reporters during a press conference held at Baitulmakmur Building 2, here today.

He said the international tournament organised in the region would also help promote Sarawak to the world.

“Whether it is sports, culture, or medical tourism, the region looks at it from another perspective, especially when it come to a big event like this. In a way, it gives publicity,” he said.

The 38th Premier Sarawak Cup ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors J300 (J1) will be held from from March 14 to 19 at the SLTA Centre.

Meanwhile, asked if Mysed would provide funding to improve SLTA’s facilities, Abdul Karim said his ministry will discuss the matter with the association.

“Personally I like the environment there with its greenery. It is an ideal location, and I would love to see that it grow probably with more practice and tournament courts,” he said. — DayakDaily
