KUCHING, May 20: The Sessions Court here sentenced a 37-year-old labourer to a jail term of six years and two strokes of the cane for raping his underage girlfriend.
Iskadar Lasot, 37, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term up to 20 years and with whipping, upon conviction.
Sessions Court Judge Maris Agan sentenced him to an imprisonment term of six years and two strokes of the cane.
He was found to have raped his 13-year-old girlfriend near a pond in Jalan Rambungan Lundu, between February 21 and 22, 2021.
The accused in his mitigation said that he and the victim was in courtship and prayed for the judge’s leniency in passing sentence as he is the sole breadwinner of his family.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ruthra Raj prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
