37 dilapidated schools in Sarawak for redevelopment under Phase 1

KUCHING, Aug 28: Sarawak government, through the state Education Department, has submitted a list of 37 dilapidated schools to Putrajaya for redevelopment this year.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, the redevelopment shall be implemented until the end of December, with the process of tendering out the works has just begun.

It added that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was briefed by the Technical Committee on the Implementation of “Dilapidated Schools Redevelopment in Sarawak” under the RM1 billion allocations.

“The committee will submit the progress report to the State-Federal Development Committee chaired jointly by Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Minister of Works, Yb Baru Bian,” the statement said.

Abang Johari also extended his appreciation to the committee members — Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Education for their commitment to ensure that the redevelopment initiative is duly implemented for the benefits of the students.

The Technical Committee is under the joint chair of the Public Works director-general and state Public Works director.

Members also comprised the Education Ministry’s divisional secretary of development and permanent secretary of Sarawak’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research, as well as State Financial Secretary, state Education director, representatives of state and federal Public Works Department and the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU).

The 37 schools submitted by the state government for Phase 1 implementation are as follow:

SK Kpg Senari in Kuching, SK Grogo and SK KG Bobak/Sejinjang in Bau, SK Kambug, Padawan, SK Tebelu, SK Raba and SK Bulan Jeragam in Simunjan, SK Pendam and SK Sambir in Samarahan, as well as SK Kujang Mawang, SMK Balai Ringin and SK Lebur Remun in Serian.

Other schools included SK Melugu in Sri Aman, SK Nanga Gayau (Betong), SK Nanga Kesit (Lubok Antu), SK Hj Junid (Saratok), SK Adin (Sarikei), SK Nanga Meluan (Julau), SK Nanga Machan and SK Nanga Tada, Kanowit.

In the central region included SK Abang Amin in Maradong, SMK Rosly Dhoby (Sibu), SK KG Baru (Kapit), SK Sg Sepiring/Sg Tepus (Selangau), SK SLDB No 1 (Mukah), SK Kuala Serupai and SK Ulu Kakus in Tatau, SK Labang (Sebauh), SK Sg Tisang and SK Sg Setiam in Bintulu, as well as SK Long Busang and SK Abun Matu, Belaga.

In the northern region, the listed schools are SK Sg Lemaus (Subis), SK Anchi and SK Beluru Central in Miri, as well as SK Bario and SK Long Pelutan in Baram. — DayakDaily
