SIBU, Feb 1: A man who sexually assaulted his niece has been sentenced to three years’ in jail.
Sessions Court judge Marutin Pagan sentenced the accused to the jail term and two strokes of the cane today for the offence.
He also ordered the accused, Osman Abu Bakar, 36, to attend counselling while serving the sentence and be placed under police supervision for one year after the sentence has been served.
Osman pleaded guilty under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for the offence.
According to the brief facts of the case, at about 8am on Jan 10, 2023, the victim was in her aunt’s bedroom of a house in Kampung Hilir when the accused showed up.
He then asked the victim about the whereabouts of his mother’s belongings.
Soon after, he lay on her back and touched her breasts.
Before he left the room, the accused told her not to reveal the incident to anybody.
The accused was arrested at 9.50am on the same day at the roadside of Jalan Masjid after the victim’s father lodged a police report. — DayakDaily
