KUCHING, Feb 25: Three boxes with 3,576 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have arrived in Sibu at 2.35 pm today.

Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (Sibu DDMC) chairman Dr Annuar Rapaee said those are mainly for the frontliners including hospital staff in Sibu, Kapit, Sarikei and Mukah.

As the vaccination is to be carried out in Sibu polyclinic and hospital tomorrow (Feb 26), he added, the doses for other districts such as Kapit would be collected from them on the same day.

“For the public in the second and third phases, we are planning to do the vaccination at the Indoor Stadium because we need a big space.

“This is because, after the injections, you cannot go back straightaway because you have to rest and be monitored for about half an hour, just to make sure you’re fine,” he told reporters at one governmental clinic at Jalan Ramli Amit earlier today.

Giving assurance to the public, Dr Annuar also said that severe side effects from the vaccination are extremely rare where the latest data have shown that only 66 out of 18 million individuals get them.

He added two injections would be given each on the first and the 21st day for a complete vaccination.

Also present at the scene were Senator Robert Lau and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting. —DayakDaily
