35 individuals compounded for SOP violation in Kuching

KUCHING, Sept 19: Police issued compounds to 35 individuals, including 10 women, for not social distancing among themselves here on Friday night.

Kuching district acting police chief Supt Merbin Lisa led a team of police in patrolling the city to make sure members of the public were following the Covid-19 Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) which was set by the government.

“The purpose of the operation is to make sure the public adhere to the SOP, especially in crowded areas and also to prevent crimes from happening,” he said.

“A total of 32 premises and 218 people were checked during the operation in Waterfront area, 101 area, Gala City area, Saradise Commercial Centre and also Metro City Gita area,” he added.

According to Merbin, the operation ended at 11 pm and the 35 people were compounded for not complying to the SOP under Rule 3, Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 2020.

Meanwhile, police had also arrested five drug suspects during the patrol last night.

“The first arrest was made at Tun Salahudin Bridge Kuching, where the police arrested two men who were tested positive for methamphetamine. The two suspects will be investigated under section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“The second arrest was made at Taman Stampin here where a total of 0.35 grammes of methamphetamine were confiscated. The two suspects were tested positive in methamphetamine as well and will be investigated under section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he added.

Merbin said that a male suspect was arrested at Kampung Stampin, here and would be investigated under  section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“The operation will be continued from time to time in order to ensure that the public are adhering to the Covid-19 SOP,” he added. -DayakDaily
