KUCHING, Aug 23: A self-employed man has been fined RM800 by the Magistrate’s Court here today for slapping and pushing woman to the ground, causing her injuries.
The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan after the accused, Budi Esmanto Salamat, 34, pleaded guilty under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment up to a year or a fine up to RM2,000, or both.
The accused was charged with intentionally causing injury to a 29-year-old woman victim in an incident on Dec 1, 2022, at around 10.15pm at a bistro on Wayang Street here.
According to the facts of the case, the victim and her friend were having drinks at the bistro when they were approached by the accused, who suddenly slapped the victim’s face using a food container.
The accused also slapped the victim’s right cheek and pushed her, causing her to fall to the ground.
As a result of the incident, the victim suffered bruising and body pain. Subsequently, the victim filed a police report, leading to the arrest of the accused on Dec 2, 2022.
The investigation revealed that the accused acted recklessly by slapping and pushing the victim to the ground, resulting in her injury.
It is understood that the cause of the incident was a disagreement between the accused and the victim.
