KUCHING, Aug 6: A total of 347 graduates from 20 academic programmes at the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) received their scrolls during the university’s 7th convocation ceremony.
The convocation ceremony, which took place on August 5-6 at Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, UTS, in Sibu, saw the conferment of awards to the graduating class of 2023.
Sarawak Premier and UTS Pro-Chancellor Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg graced the second session of the convocation ceremony today and presented Bachelor’s Degrees to 195 undergraduates.
Yesterday (Aug 5), Sarawak Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (Higher Education and Innovation) and UTS Board of Directors chairman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee graced the first session of the convocation ceremony.
During the first session, 152 graduates were honoured, including 16 postgraduates with Master’s (15) and PhD (1) degrees and 136 undergraduates with Bachelor’s degrees.
In addition, during the ceremony, the prestigious Chancellor Award was presented to Ho Xiao Feng, who graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours). Additionally, the Academic Award was conferred upon Farah Nur Syamira Muhammad Junaidi, who completed a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons), and Tan Yi Qi, who graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Hons).
The Chancellor Award is a recognition awarded to a graduate with excellent academic performance and personality attributes such as leadership skills, good communication skills, excellent personality, and active in co-curricular activities at the university level. The recipient will receive a plaque, a certificate, and RM5,000. As for the Academic Award, it is a recognition awarded to graduates with excellent academic performance at the university level. The recipient(s) will receive a plaque, a certificate, and RM3,000.
Amongst those present were Dr Annuar; UTS vice chancellor/president Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid; and UTS deputy vice-chancellor (Academic) and 7th UTS Convocation organising committee chairman Prof Ir Ts Dr Mohammad Shahril Osman. — DayakDaily
