KUCHING, Sept 4: The Ministry of Works has repaired 3,467 potholes on federal roads in Sarawak as of August this year, says its secretary-general Dato Wira Wan Ahmad Uzir Wan Sulaiman.

He said the ministry has introduced the ‘ZeroPotHole’ campaign in 2016 and ‘Aku Janji Zero Potholes’ campaign in July 2020 before launching a new campaign titled ‘Kita Jaga Jalan Kita’ in ensuring the roads and highways safe.

“To date, a total of 3,467 potholes on federal roads in Sarawak have been fixed within a 24-hour period.

“The 24-hour period means we fix the potholes within 24-hours from the time the issue is identified through public complaints and observation by JKR,” he said in a briefing during an engagement session of Senior Minister of Works Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof with the media at the Waterfront Hotel here last night (Sept 3).

There are a total of 20,017km federal roads nationwide, with 844.85km located in Sarawak.

Under the 2022 Federal Budget, the Ministry of Works has allocated RM88.3 million for maintenance works on federal roads in Sarawak through concession company DAL HCM Sdn Bhd and implementing agency Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR). — DayakDaily
