KUCHING, April 18: Thirty-four records were created from the 100 events held during the recently concluded Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC)’s 4th Inter-Primary School Swimming Competition (Kuching and Kota Samarahan) held at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre.
Of the 33 participating schools, 22 of them went back with medals.
The club’s advisor, Voon Yong Hui, in a press statement, expressed hope to see more participants next year.
“We are very proud to see this year’s achievements. Every year, there is an increase in records created and increase in the number of schools participating,” he said.
“We are also proud of our club’s swimmers because seven of our athletes won best swimmer awards out of the 12 categories.”
Voon revealed that the seven PASC swimmers who won best swimmer awards were Casper Tan (Primary Six – Boy), Darren Leong (Primary Five – Boy), Dylan Leong (Primary 4 – Boy), Janice Tan (Primary 4 – Girl), Cayden Mineve Chin (Primary Three – Boy), Max Chew (Primary One – Boy), and Charissa Ang (Primary One – Girl).
On another note, he said the club planned to organise another swimming competition come August, believing that more swimming competitions should be held, just like their counterpart in Peninsula Malaysia and overseas, because it is a good platform to identify potential swimmers.
He thanked the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Sarawak Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong and Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian as well as the Sarawak Sports Corporation chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee for their support towards the recent competition. — DayakDaily
