325 detained in anti-drug op in Sarawak, foreigners comprise over half arrested

KUCHING, Feb 2: A total of 325 individuals aged 16 to 69 were arrested by the police for their involvement in drug activities in the State-wide ‘Ops Tapis Khas’.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mancha Ata said the operation, which was conducted from Jan 29 until 31 throughout Sarawak, was carried out in hardcore poor people housing project (PPRT) areas, plantations, fishing harbours, villagers, shop houses, and various other locations.

“Among those arrested are 218 foreigners, of which 27 are drug pushers, while 191 are drug users.


“Forty wanted persons were also arrested, including 67 others for various offences, and a total of 1,197.22 grams of drugs with an estimated worth of RM64,034.42 were seized during the operation,” he said in a statement today.

He added all suspects were arrested under Section 39B, Section 39A(2), Section 39A(1), Section 39C, Section 12(2), Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Acts, including Section 3(1) of the Special Preventive Measures (LLPK) 1985 and Wanted Person.

On the same note, Mancha said throughout January 2024, Sarawak police made 1,221 arrests and seized various drugs worth RM7,494,453.94, including property worth RM456,566.55.
