32 winners selected in Miri City’s 2023 Home Garden and Landscape Competition

KUCHING, Dec 6: The Miri City Home Garden and Landscape Competition has 32 winners overall this year.

According to Miri City Council (MCC) Mayor Adam Yii, who presented the prizes to the winners at Miri City Hall today, a total of 11 categories were contested, namely Traditional House/Village; Single House/Bungalow; Terraced House (Other than Side Lot); Semi-detached House/Side Lot Terrace; Primary School; High School; University/College/Educational Institute/Training; Government Building; Private Building/GLC; Hotel/Resort; and House of Worship.

In the Traditional House/Village category, Dayang Juma’ah Awang Moksin was awarded first place, followed by Amy Lagang in second place, and Elizacorina Siguru in third place.

In the Single House/Bungalow category, the champion was Molly Cher, followed by Mohamad Ali Abdullah in second place, and Kusaimi Hamdan in third place.

In the Terraced House (Other than Side Lot) category, the champion was Norizan Kasman, followed by Fatimah Dan in second place, and Ubong Din Lyzwin in third place.

In the Semi-detached House/Side Lot Terrace category, the champion was Chong Chi Lan, followed by Chien Kan Wei (Ryan) in second place, and Lirang Uvang Kawait in third place.

Meanwhile, SJKC Chung Hua Miri won first place in the Primary School category, followed by SK Pulau Melayu in second place and SK Lutong in third.

SMK Merbau Miri won first place in the High School category, followed by SMK Bario in second place and SMK Taman Tunku in third place.

Institut Latihan Perindustrian Miri (ILP) capture first place in the University/College/Educational Institute/Training category, followed by Curtin University Malaysia in second place and Sarawak Skill/i-Cats Miri in third place.

Meanwhile, in the Government Building category, the winner was Lembaga Pelabuhan Miri, followed by Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) in second place and Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri in third place.

Petronas Jalan Bintang won the Private Building/GLC category, with Petronas Lutong Bazaar coming in second.

In the Hotel/Resort category, the champion was Miri Marriott Resort & Spa, followed by Grand Palace Hotel in second place, and Jinhold Hotel & Serviced Apartment in third place.

Finally, in the House of Worship category, St Columba Church Miri was declared the champion, followed by Church of Mater Dei in second place, and BEM Pujut 3, Bahasa Kayan in third place.

“The programme of holding the Home Garden and Landscaping Competition comes from Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who was then Chief Minister of Sarawak, when officiating at a new housing estate, Taman Bumiko in Miri on March 13, 1987.

“The intention behind introducing such competition was to encourage house owners and property owners, whether they are in the public, private, or commercial sectors, to landscape and beautify the compounds of their properties,” Yii said in his speech. — DayakDaily
