KUCHING, June 30: A 31-year-old freelance computer programmer in Long Lama, Marudi, earns about RM2,000 a month by working from home.
Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), in a statement today, said Lim Sie Hui graduated from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (Multimedia).
When met recently, she said that stable internet connectivity in her village, which started at the end of last year, allowed her to continue pursuing his ambitions as a professional computer programmer.
“I develop computer programmes, websites, and online games for smartphones according to the clients’ requests.
“I also developed education apps for university students, and it got an encouraging response,” she said.
Lim, currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Computer at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Serdang, said a stable Internet network makes it easier for her to attend online classes.
According to her, throughout her studies, she did not face any problems regarding the internet network, which is now becoming more stable.
Compared to a few years ago, she said, getting an Internet connection is quite difficult because you have to leave the house to get a network.
“With a stable Internet network, I can increase my income from home to fulfil demands for online game development from Peninsular Malaysia and China,” said Lim, adding that she also helps her parents run a shop in Pekan Long Lama. — DayakDaily
