KUCHING, Jan 14: As part of the preparations for the upcoming Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) Kuching project, the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak has identified 319 out of 468 bus stops that will support the initiative, which require maintenance.
LPKP Sarawak chairman Michael Kong stated that the findings stem from a comprehensive route mapping exercise aimed at assessing the condition of bus stops along the 10 routes that SBST Kuching will serve.
“Additionally, 49 bus stops have been flagged for upgrading to meet modern public transportation standards,” he said in a statement today.
Kong emphasised that a key focus of the exercise is ensuring that bus stops are accessible to senior citizens and people with disabilities (OKU).
“Accessibility and inclusivity remain key priorities to ensure that the SBST Kuching project benefits all segments of society,” he added.
The findings and recommendations from this exercise have been forwarded to the Ministry of Transport Sarawak to request for their assistance in collaborating with local councils to address these critical infrastructure needs.
Kong highlighted that the success of SBST Kuching depends on a well-maintained and inclusive public transportation system.
“With bus stops playing a central role in this initiative, LPKP Sarawak is optimistic that the Ministry of Transport Sarawak and local councils will act swiftly to implement the necessary improvements, helping to create an efficient and accessible public transport network for Kuching,” he said. — DayakDaily
