SIBU, Sept 27: A total of 297 ex-policemen and 19 who are still serving were today awarded the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara (PJPN) or State Hero Service Medal.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the total number of recipients was 316 in the Central Zone covering 12 districts namely Sibu, Sarikei, Betong, Saratok, Kanowit, Julau, Kapit, Song, Meradong, Mukah, Dalat and Matu-Daro.
“This PJPN is awarded to officers of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in recognition of their heroic service, sacrifice, and devotion to the country during the emergency era in the service of the federation of Malaya for the period from July 12, 1948 to July 22, 1960 and the era of the Communist insurgency on June 17, 1968 until December 2, 1989 in Malaysia, also in Sabah and Sarawak in 1962 until October 17, 1990 which is known as emergency service,” he said at a press conference after presentation of the awards.
According to him, the PDRM Sarawak Contingent has held this PJPN awarding ceremony as many as nine times in a ceremony and five times without a ceremony starting in 2014 until this current series.
Based on the PDRM e-Retirement system established in 2020, he said, a total of 2,870 retirees/former police personnel in the Sarawak Contingent have not been awarded PJPN.
Of that number, explained Mohd Azman, a total of 2,073 people chose to attend a ceremony while 797 people chose to receive the award without a ceremony.
“Based on this year’s planning, the Sarawak Contingent Level PJPN Ceremony will be held in two more series, namely in the Kuching and Sri Aman districts,” he said.
Therefore, Mohd Azman urged all retirees and ex-policemen who are eligible to be awarded the PJPN, to be reminded to immediately register via the e-Pesara portal. — DayakDaily
