KUCHING, Feb 27: The carcass of a 300-kilogram male crocodile was discovered near the Satok Bridge around 12.45pm today.
Upon receiving a report from Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB), Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) despatched a SWAT team led by Dr Mohd Izwan Zulaini to retrieve the 14.4-feet-long reptile.
The carcass was found tangled in a net amongst other debris in the river.
“The findings of the autopsy could shed more light on the exact cause of death of the crocodile, which we will share with the public in due course.
“While we do not suspect foul play at the moment, the post mortem report will help to clear the air on the reptile’s death,” said SFC chief executive officer (CEO) and Controller of Wildlife Zolkipli Mohamad Aton.
In a social media post today, he also emphasised that all crocodiles are protected under the Wild Life Protection Ordinance 1988. — DayakDaily
