KUCHING, Aug 5: Thirty roads in Kuching city will be closed or subject to traffic diversions from 8am on Aug 8 until 10am on Aug 9 in conjunction with the Sarawak Energy Marathon 2026.
Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the road closures and diversions were necessary to ensure the smooth running of the marathon, which will involve participation from local and international runners, as well as to facilitate traffic management during the event.
The first road affected will be the vicinity of the Sarawak Energy building, where closures will begin at 8am on Aug 8 and continue until 10am on Aug 9.
Other affected roads will see closures from 12.01am to 8am on Aug 9, including Jalan Isthmus, Jalan Pelabuhan, Jalan Merican Salleh, Jalan Pending, Jalan Padungan, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Lebuh Temple, Lebuh Wayang and Jalan Main Bazaar.
The list also includes Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Satok, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakob, Jalan Stadium, Jalan Casuarina, Jalan Diplomatik, Jalan MASJA, Jalan Astana, Jalan Hasyim Jaafar, Jalan Merdeka, Jalan Kulas, Jalan Muhibbah, Jalan Haji Mataim, Jalan Ajibah Abol, Jalan Market, Jalan Gambier, Jalan Abell, Jalan Abang Abdul Rahim, Lorong Sebor, Jalan Kwong Lee Bank and Jalan Merbau.
Alexson advised members of the public to avoid parking vehicles along road shoulders in the affected areas and to plan their journeys ahead of time by using alternative routes to reduce traffic congestion.
“Motorists are advised to cooperate and comply with instructions from traffic personnel stationed at affected locations throughout the event,” he said.
