30 children among 55 individuals detained by Miri immigration authorities in early morning raids

MIRI, Oct 14: Miri Immigration Enforcement Unit (UPI) conducted a series of early morning raids across several locations, resulting in the arrest of 55 individuals in Pujut, Piasau, Bakam, Lutong, and Kuala Baram.

The operation followed several days of surveillance and intelligence gathering, triggered by public complaints.

UPI teams inspected 59 individuals, of which 55 were detained.

Those arrested include 18 men, seven women, and 30 children, all found sleeping in shared houses, rental accommodations, and temporary settlements at construction sites.

The largest group of detainees, 42 individuals, was found at a housing construction site in Kuala Baram.

The arrests were made for various immigration-related offences, including the absence of valid travel documents, overstaying, and failure to possess a valid pass to remain in Malaysia.

All 55 individuals are being held for offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
