3 students from SMK Senibong unaccounted for after boat sinks in Lundu

LUNDU, Aug 20: Three students are feared missing after the boat they were in sank on Sungai Kayan in Kampung Selampit, Lundu, at around 6.10am today.

According to a Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) spokesperson, a call about the incident was received at 6.33am, and firefighters from the Lundu station arrived at the scene at 7.03am.

The boat was reported to have been carrying approximately 20 passengers, among whom were 18 secondary school students from SMK Senibong.

“Fifteen secondary school students, one adult female, and the boat’s operator were rescued.

“The three students—a boy and two girls—are still unaccounted for,” said the spokesperson in a statement, adding that an initial search was conducted using villagers’ boats. — DayakDaily
