LAWAS, Oct 18: Three students from SK Agama, aged between five and 10, tragically lost their lives in a car accident near Jalan Awat-Awat after the vehicle plunged into a river.
A nine-year-old boy remains in critical condition and has been rushed to Miri Hospital for urgent treatment.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Lawas, members of the public managed to rescue three of the children trapped inside the vehicle and brought them to Sundar Clinic.
They were later transferred to Lawas Hospital for further medical care.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 1.15pm, involved a Perodua Alza with 10 passengers, including eight SK Agama students and the five-year-old child of the 38-year-old driver.
Six of the passengers, including the driver, escaped to safety after the driver opened the car’s bonnet.
Earlier reports showed images of rescuers performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on two of the children at the scene.
Firefighters conducted a thorough search of the river to confirm there were no additional victims, and the operation concluded at 2.50pm. — DayakDaily
