3 new clusters declared in Sarawak today as number of active clusters balloons to 53

KUCHING, April 21: A total of 65 infections were traced overnight to a newly declared cluster dubbed the Sungai Lemayong Cluster in Meradong, bringing the cluster’s tally to 69 today.

The Sungai Lemayong Cluster is one of three new clusters being declared in Sarawak today with the other two being the Duranda Emas Cluster in Serian with 19 cases and the Taman Mesra Bako Cluster in Kuching with 50 cases.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily report on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, revealed that a total of 151 individuals linked to the Sungai Lemayong Cluster have been screened whereby 72 were negative and 10 are still waiting for lab test results.

For the Duranda Emas Cluster, a total of 75 individuals have been screened, whereby 44 have tested negative and 12 are still awaiting their lab test results.

As for the Taman Mesra Bako Cluster, a total of 721 individuals have been screened, whereby 33 have tested negative and 638 are still awaiting their lab test results.

With the addition of three new clusters today, Sarawak now has 53 active clusters out of which nine clusters registered an increase of 29 new infections.

The clusters are the Sungai Kawi Cluster with nine new cases, Jalan Puncak Borneo (9 cases in Kuching and one cases in Samarahan), Jalan Kapitan (3 cases), Jalan Maju (2 cases), while Jalan Baki, Nanga Kelangas, Tarat Tani, Abak Bon and Disso with one case each.

Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded four Covid-19 fatalities and 429 new cases with Meradong topped the list of daily infections at 82 cases followed by Sibu (62), Bintulu (58), Kuching (54), Bukit Mabong (36), Miri (23), Kapit (21), Song (17), Mukah and Sarikei (11 each), Samarahan (6), Kanowit, Subis, Selangau and Limbang (5 each), Marudi, Matu and Pakan (4 each), Sri Aman (2) while Pusa, Serian, Dalat, Saratok, Beluru, Belaga and Bau one case each.

This thus increased the State’s tally of positive cases to 25,558 and death toll to 145. — DayakDaily
