3 friends get 3 years’ jail each for robbing convenience store at Jalan Song Thian Cheok

KUCHING, May 11: The Sessions Court here has sentenced three friends to three years’ imprisonment each for robbing a 24-hour convenience store at Jalan Song Thian Cheok.

They were found to have committed theft by stealing cash amounting to RM3,273 at the store at about 5.15am on Feb 9, 2022.


Mohd Amirul Husini, 29, Kamak Abak, 30, and Reynolds Cassey Julong Patrick, 23, pleaded guilty to the charge framed before Sessions Court Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman.

They were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment of 10 years and a fine.

According to the brief facts of the case, a male worker at the convenience store said two men had entered the store wearing masks and hats.

Suddenly, Amirul took out an axe and pointed it towards the cashier, taking away RM3,273 in cash while Kamal was seen wielding a kerambit knife. Meanwhile, Reynolds stood watch outside the store.

After stealing the money, they fled the scene in a compact car.

The male worker then lodged a police report, and the three of them were arrested on Feb 17, 2022.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Iezzah Iburdanisha Ibrahim prosecuted the case, while all three were unrepresented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
