3 dead, 4 injured following accident along Engkelili-Sri Aman road

KUCHING, May 26: Three died while four others were seriously injured following a road accident on the Engkelili-Sri Aman road yesterday (May 25).

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak operations centre, two vehicles were involved, a sedan car and a compact hatchback, which collided head-on near the Maruk Quarry in Engkelili.

According to the report, four victims were pinned inside the compact hatchback vehicle; two of them were extracted by members of the public and sent to the hospital using a Ministry of Health (MOH) ambulance, while another two were extricated by firefighters using rescue tools.


“Two of the victims, Pauline Simba Jua, 34, and Carlos Nelson, 22, were pronounced dead at the location by medical personnel, while another victim, Elizabeth Jua, 33, succumbed to injuries during treatment in Engkelili Health Clinic.

“The fourth passenger in the compact hatchback vehicle was also seriously injured,” it said.

The report added that in the sedan vehicle, all three victims suffered serious injuries and were brought to the hospital using Bomba Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) and MOH ambulance.

The Bomba Sarawak operations centre said after receiving the call regarding the accident at 6.38pm yesterday, firefighters from Bomba Sri Aman were rushed to the location.

The operation also involves Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), and personnel from Naim Gamuda. — DayakDaily
