MIRI, May 30: Three people who were allegedly involved in the shootout-cum-robbery at Taman Jelita on May 16 today pleaded not guilty in two Magistrate’s Courts to the charges filed against them.
Another suspect, Ng Cheng Hui, 37, also known as ‘Pui Kaw’, is still at large, while the third accused, Rosemore Mohamed Saripeng, 45, is charged under Section 216A of the Penal Code for harbouring Ng.
The first accused, Su Seng Kwang, 49, and Rosemore were brought before Magistrate Md Syafique Md Hilmie.
Su was slapped with 2 charges, where the first charge was framed under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for the discharge of a firearm. For this charge, he is accused of discharging a Steyr 9MM pistol (serial number 043051) with the intention to cause death or hurt policeman Corporal William Bell Jol.
For the second charge, which is under Section 8 of the same Act, he is accused of unlawful possession of a firearm (Steyr 9MM).
The second accused, Yap Thiam Huat, 35, was brought before Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad. Yap was charged under Section 3A of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for accomplices in the discharge of a firearm.
All three accused will be produced in court for further mention of the case on June 28.
Su and Yap were later taken to Lambir Prison to await further mention of the case, while Rosemore was granted bail of RM7,000 with two local sureties.
Su was not represented, while Yap was represented by counsel Ranbir Singh and Rosemore by Firdaus Morshidi. — DayakDaily
