29yo man feared drowned in Rajang River after boat found drifting near Sedaya jetty

KANOWIT, Jan 18: A 29-year-old man is feared to have drowned after going missing in Rajang River near Sedaya jetty on Thursday (Jan 16).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Kanowit has entered the third day of its search and rescue (SAR) operation today, conducting surface searches from the Kanowit jetty towards the Durin bridge, covering an estimated 23-kilometre radius.

The victim, identified as Lau King Hock, was reported missing by his father at around 11.50am on Jan 16.

Lau had earlier sent his wife to Kanowit Hospital at 7am for a maternity check-up before returning by boat.

At approximately 11am, members of the public discovered Lau’s boat drifting near Sedaya Jetty.

Lau’s mother fears he may have fallen into the river and was swept away by strong currents.
